The 2013 Access Conference – “Embracing Sustainable Leadership” – was devoted to the themes of leadership and sustainability. In order to maintain and build upon the leadership theme as a hallmark of Access conferences, this year’s conference will focus on the dimension of disruption and transformation, with a particular but not exclusive, focus on technology.
Leadership is a crowded field and a much-researched topic (a Google search on “leadership research” yields 757 million results!). Despite this over-abundance of information and analysis, the Access Conference 2013 succeeded in offering – in just one day ! – a remarkable “crash course” on the art, science and practice of leadership.
Sixteen exceptional speakers – from very different backgrounds, but all very prominent in their own right – provided the participants with some fascinating insights on what it takes and what it means to be a leader.
The speakers are listed below in alphabetical order :
Nik Gowing, an international broadcaster and journalist, moderated most sessions. He conducted them in an interactive fashion, polling the guests at regular intervals on particular issues, and giving them an opportunity to engage in a conversation with the panelists. As Gbenga Oyebode stated in his welcoming remarks: “we are here to learn and to share”. Very much so! Throughout the day, the Access conference proved to be a two-way street.
